900 million is used to repair livestock watering dams

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries (Livestock), Prof. Elisante Ole Gabriel said that the government is spending more than 900 million for the major rehabilitation of two Narakauo Livestock Dams in Simanjiro District, Manyara Region and Kimakuwa Dam in Longido District, Arusha Region.

Prof. Gabriel made the remarks during a visit to inspect the progress of the rehabilitation of the dams in Arusha and Manyara Regions on November 7, 2020.

Speaking to pastoralists in the area after making the visit, Prof. Gabriel said that the Narakauo dam has been allocated 413 million while the Kimakuwa dam has been allocated 511.9 million.

Prof. Gabriel explained that the renovation is an implementation of the instructions given by the President, Dr. John Magufuli was in Manyara Region recently to ensure that the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries makes a concerted effort to address the water challenge for livestock.

He added that, apart from the rehabilitation of the two dams, projects such as the rehabilitation of watering dams are also underway in Chamakweza Ward, Chalinze, Coast Region and another in Mbangala Ward, Songwe Region are in the process of being completed, stressing that The ministry will continue to improve access to water for livestock so that pastoralists do not have to travel long distances to fetch water.

In addition, Prof. Gabriel also used the opportunity to call on the Zeco Construction Company which has been tasked with repairing the two Narakauo and Kimokwa dams to ensure that the projects are completed before November 25, 2020 to avoid the challenge of rain.

"Increase the strength and speed of this construction to complete it before the rains begin, if the rains catch you before you finish, all the work you have done will be meaningless" Prof. Gabriel
